Cancer is a painful medical experience not only for the patient but also their loved ones.
It robs people of their peace of mind and sometimes their dignity as human beings; thus, affecting relationships and economic situations. Being a low-income country with limited facilities, the state sector is required to provide free healthcare to all, resulting in patients having to face enormous challenges. Frequent long-distance travelling in poor medical conditions is unthinkable for most who are affected by cancer.
The in-house care of Samagi Sevana is lovingly managed by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation under the full-time supervision of the Chaplain to the Cancer Patients, Maharagama.
The welcome home liaises closely with the Apeksha Hospital and the community resources, including primary health care institutions, community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations to provide holistic care for the patients and their families. National Cancer Care Program works together with us to provide community-based survivorship care and palliative care for cancer patients and their families.
